Airport transfer or rental car?

The right choice depends on where you're staying and how often you'll actually leave your hotel—not just the quoted daily rental rate.

Take a Quest editorial guide · Updated November 6, 2026

Compare total costs, not headline rates

Start with your arrival airport and lodging address. Add the addresses of every place you will visit. If you plan to spend almost the entire weekend at one resort or attraction, paying for a vehicle every day may be unnecessary. If you're exploring distant neighborhoods or multiple destinations, a rental might offer more flexibility.

Transfer calculation: Add pickup and return trips, any additional taxi or rideshare fares, tips you intend to pay, and the cost of child seats or larger luggage if needed. Check whether the booking is private or shared and how the company handles delayed flights.

Rental calculation: Include the entire rental rate, taxes, insurance options, deposits, fuel, tolls, airport surcharges and hotel or attraction parking. If a quoted rental doesn't include all mandatory fees, it is not the comparable total.

What changes the best decision?

A large group with multiple luggage items may prefer a prearranged vehicle rather than splitting into separate rides. A traveler staying near attractions with a shuttle might use very little paid transportation during the stay. A traveler with accessibility needs may need to verify vehicle type and boarding arrangements in advance.

Weather, traffic and event schedules matter, too. An attraction listed as 'Orlando area' may be farther away than expected. Map actual routes rather than assuming all advertised experiences are close to the airport.

  2. Estimate the number of trips on the schedule and check whether public transit or hotel shuttles are realistic.
  3. Compare complete transfer costs with complete rental costs, including parking and tolls.
  4. Check luggage, mobility, child-seat and cancellation requirements before paying.

Use our trip calculator to include the selected transport cost in the full weekend estimate.
